Understanding The Misconceptions

After 17 years of sitting down with people in-person to discuss Life Insurance, one thing has become very apparent, and this is that most people on average do not understand the first thing about life insurance. In fact, the first thing is just about all that they know. It's an insurance that should be called Death Insurance because it pays money to someone at death. As I browse through Facebook and other social media platforms, I see many advertisements for life and health insurance, automobile insurance, and other types of insurance. As an agent, I'm always curious when I see a bunch of comments on any life insurance advertisement. As I read through the comments it very much solidifies the idea that most people do not understand life insurance. Even people whose comments appear as if they know what they're talking about have absolutely no idea what they're talking about. Others merely call it a scam, and some admit that they don't understand it, and their only concern is why it's appearing in their thread. Sometimes I chime in, but my comments become lengthy and I start to feel like I'm hijacking the comments section because of my extensive knowledge of the subject. It is true, life insurance pays at death. I believe it's called life insurance, simply because death insurance does not sound attractive. There are actually quite a few words that have been put in place of "life insurance" because studies have shown that people don't even like to see the words life insurance, and it's basically what is now referred to as "cringe-worthy". However, it is an extremely valuable product and in most cases more necessary than any other type of insurance. Although other types of insurance can often be required by law in some cases. If you have a license and wish to drive a vehicle, you must have automobile insurance. If you finance a home, you must carry homeowners insurance, and you're even required to prove it. No one is required to carry life insurance, but one thing is for sure and that is that life insurance is the only insurance that guarantees a claim will take place. Of course, that's only if the policy is still in force. I can easily say the mass majority of life insurance policies do not end in a claim. They end in a cancellation, a lapse in coverage, and in some cases policies expire. Often a policy that is considered to have been paid, is actually a claim that was contested and premiums returned.
